Alvarez apologized to Messi

Lionel Messi
World boxing champion Canelo Alvarez was in a lot of trouble by threatening to 'see' Lionel Messi. The Mexican boxer has finally apologized to the Argentine star after being attacked by several people in the sports arena.

A video after the Argentina-Mexico match in the World Cup group stage was spread on social media. While the rest of the Argentina team was celebrating, Messi was seen taking off his boots in his seat. At one stage of opening the boots, the Argentine star moved the Mexico jersey that was lying in front to the side. Alvarez tweeted claiming that Messi disrespected the Argentinian flag after watching the video.

In a tweet, he wrote, 'He (Messi) should not have to read in front of me, he should pray to his creator.' In addition to this, Alvarez, who was the world's best in super middleweight last May, among the current boxers in the 'pound for pound' fight, also tweeted something in unprintable language.

These controversial tweets of the Mexican boxer caused a storm of discussion. Argentina's former striker Sergio Aguero, Brazil's former defensive midfielder Felipe Melo, boxer Franco Tenaglia and many others criticized Alvarez standing next to Messi. The main point of everyone's comments was that Alvarez doesn't understand football. He has no idea about footballers dressing room.

In the face of continued criticism, Alvarez made a tweet on the eve of the start of the Argentina-Poland match on Wednesday. There he writes, 'I was overwhelmed by the passion and love I felt for my country. And I made comments that were not correct. For that I would like to apologize to Messi and the people of Argentina. Every day we learn something new, which I learned this time.'
