Oil-powered transport is not running in Chittagong

As previously announced in Chittagong city, oil-powered transport is not running from Saturday (August 6) morning. The passengers have suffered greatly. Even if the gas-powered cars are running, the extra fare is being collected. Many people pile into CNG-powered auto-rickshaws and run towards offices and factories.
The government announced a sudden increase in the price of fuel on Friday (August 5) night. This information was given in a press release sent by the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources at 10 pm. The price of diesel and kerosene has been increased by Tk 34 to Tk 114 per litre, the price of petrol has been increased by Tk 44 to Tk 130 and the price of octane has been increased by Tk 46 to Tk 135.

This new price is effective from 12 midnight onwards. Chittagong Metropolitan Paribahan Malik Group announced not to take out vehicles from this morning due to sudden increase in oil prices. According to the announcement, there is no oil-powered public transport on the roads of Chittagong.
Crowds of passengers were seen waiting for vehicles at all stations including Muradpur, Bahaddarhat, Sholshahar Gate 2 of the city. Complaints have been raised about charging extra fare from the passengers even though the gas-powered public transport is plying on the roads.

Officials of private institutions. Rafiq said, 'The buses plying on route number 3 mainly go from Chittagong University to New Market. Now it appears that a car is moving at a short distance at their convenience. In these gas-powered cars, where the fare is supposed to be 5 taka, it is being taken 10 taka. The gas-powered transports are charging an additional fare of Tk 5 to Tk 10.

A passenger said, 'I work in a garment factory in EPZ. I travel daily from Muradpur by ticket based public transport Metro Prabhati. But the owner association has stopped the ticket based public transport called Metro Prabhati and Sonar Bangla. Most of the public transport on Chittagong Patenga route is oil powered. But this route has the most industrial factories. It is difficult for us to go to the factory since morning. Some have gone to offices and factories in groups of 4-5 people in CNG-powered auto-rickshaws.
Belayet Hossain Belal, president of Chittagong Metropolitan Transport Owners Group, said, "We are in trouble due to the sudden increase in oil prices. That's why I decided not to drive in the city from this morning. A formal decision will be made in this regard by meeting with the transport leaders.
