Inauguration of the second furnace of Rooppur today

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the installation of Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) or nuclear reactor at the second unit of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna on Wednesday. The Chief Minister will inaugurate the work virtually from Ganobhaban at 10 am. Alexei Likhachev, Director General of the Russian Atomic Energy Agency - Rosatom, will be present at the ceremony.

Science and Technology Minister Yafes Osman said the installation of major nuclear equipment in the second unit of the power plant will be almost completed with the installation of the nuclear reactor. He told reporters in Pabna yesterday, 'The work of the project is progressing and it is expected to be completed within the stipulated time.' Reactor pressure vessel is the main equipment of nuclear power plant.

Inside it, energy will be produced from uranium, which will be used to generate electricity. Along with that, the reactor also acts as a barrier to prevent the release of radioactive materials from polluting the environment. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the installation of nuclear reactors in the first unit of the country's first nuclear power plant on October 10 last year. The government hopes that the first unit of 1200 MW capacity at Rooppur will start supplying power to the national grid next year. If all goes well, power supply will start from the second unit in 2024.
