Four regions of Ukraine are joining Russia today
Ukraine's Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk and Luhansk regions
will officially join the Russian Federation on Friday. At a time when these
four regions are going to be included in Russia, while Ukraine has announced
that it will continue to fight to save these areas. At the same time, the
Western world criticized this move and announced more sanctions on Russia.
A ceremony has been organized at the Kremlin Hall in Moscow,
Russia, to declare these four regions part of them. This program will start at
3 pm. Putin will make a speech at the event, as well as sign documents. Apart
from this, a concert has also been organized in Red Square, a little away from
the Kremlin Wall.
In this regard, Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, after
the referendum, these four regions are being joined with the Russian Federation
to respond to the call of the rulers. After the signing of the relevant
document, Putin will deliver an important speech.
However, it is not certain whether Putin will go to the
concert organized in Red Square. But in 2014, after taking control of Crimea, a
similar event was held. At that time, however, he went to Red Square.
Today, while Moscow is in a festive mood, Kiev, Ukraine will
be under pressure. The country's President Volodymyr Zelensky has called a
meeting on what kind of steps will be taken after this occupation of Russia.
Top officials of the country's security department and politicians will attend
the meeting.
Before this meeting, Zelensky said on Thursday that Russia's
so-called referendum has no value. It will not change the reality. Territorial
integrity of Ukraine will be restored. Russian actions will be met with a
strong response.
The United States and the European Union have already
announced they will impose more sanctions on Russia. However, there is
disagreement about the sanctions that will be imposed by the EU. Hungary has
said it will not support the embargo if the fuel is covered.
Serbia, known as Russia's ally, Kazakhstan also says that
they will not recognize this move by Russia. And the President of Turkey, Recep
Tayyip Erdoğan, who brought Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table, also condemned
this move by Putin.
The EU has previously imposed seven-point sanctions against
Russia over the Ukraine war. If the ban is imposed this time, the ban will be
imposed eight times.
This is not the first time that Ukrainian lands have been
occupied by Russia. Earlier in 2014 Crimea was annexed to the Russian
Federation by referendum. Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk and Luhansk regions
are now under Russian control. Russian President Putin announced today that 15
percent of Ukraine's territory will go out of control. If these areas are lost,
Ukraine's agricultural production will decrease by 13 to 16 percent.
According to the British media The Guardian , the area of
this territory is 90 thousand square kilometers, which is equal to the
territory of countries like Hungary or Portugal.
In this context, Economist journalist Shashank Joshi said
that after World War II, no country could forcibly occupy such a large
territory of any European country.
Despite this, Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that
the military operation in Donetsk would continue. He said, still 40 percent of
Donetsk area is under the control of Ukraine. Russian forces will continue to
fight until they gain control of these areas.
However, Ukraine has announced that it will continue to
fight to get back the territory under Russian control. Ukrainian forces have
already regained control of several areas of Kharkiv. Apart from this, the
Ukrainian forces are slowly encircling the city of Liman.
Military experts believe that this area will also return to Ukraine. In this situation, the United States has announced to give more weapons. As a result, experts fear that the Russia-Ukraine war may intensify.
