Two lighter ships collided in Bay of Bengal, 2 bodies recovered

A ship named 'MV Sultan Sanja' has sunk in a collision between two lighter ships outside Chittagong port. The bodies of the two people killed in the incident were recovered by the Coast Guard on Friday morning.

The matter was confirmed by Coast Guard Chittagong Zonal Headquarters (Eastern Zone) Staff Officer (Operation) Lieut. Commander M Ashfaq bin Idris.

He said, on Wednesday afternoon, a collision occurred between two lighter ships at Bahirnongar. In this incident, a ship named MV Sultan Sanja sank. Of the 9 sailors on board, 3 swam to another ship but the remaining 6 were missing. Today, the bodies of two of those six people have been recovered, four are missing. The details of the body have not yet been identified.

Lt. Commander M Ashfaq bin Idris said that Coast Guard divers are conducting an operation in search of the missing persons. But the rescue operation is hampered due to strong current.

Earlier on Tuesday night, a fishing vessel named 'MV Magferat' sank in an accident while docked at Ichanagar C-Resource Dockyard Ghat area on Karnaphuli River. 14 of the 20 people on board were able to swim ashore, but 7 people in the cabin went missing. The bodies of four people were recovered in an operation by the fire service, coast guard and port authority on Thursday.
