Kader's question is, how logical is the closure of polling on the CCTV camera
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader claimed that except for the closed centers from Dhaka in the Gaibandha by-election, all the polling stations were fair. In response to questions from reporters at the inauguration ceremony of two new urban transport routes in Dhaka's Mohammadpur on Thursday, he said that he does not understand the rationale of postponing the elections even after fair voting was held in all the 51 centers closed from Dhaka. At this time, Kader urged the Election Commission to consider the matter with humility.
CEC Kazi Habibul Awal announced the decision to postpone the election in the middle of the by-election in Gaibandha-5 constituency on Wednesday. The decision was taken by the EC after seeing the footage of irregularities in the CCTV cameras installed in each center during this by-election. The CEC said on Thursday that they have taken the right decision amidst the criticism of the Gaibandha leaders and activists of the ruling party.
Quader said, according to the presiding officers, 51 polling stations were closed from Dhaka, which took place in Gaibandha yesterday (Wednesday). They can do it. But on the basis of the pictures of the secret booth with the journalists sitting in Dhaka, I will humbly ask the Election Commission to think about how logical, how realistic, how legal it is to close the center (voting).
Claiming that the polling was done smoothly, Minister Quader said that the presiding officers of the centers which were not closed by the Election Commission from Dhaka all said in one sentence that the polling was done smoothly and there was no disorder. They (the commission) closed the polls on the instructions of the Returning Officer. At that time, Kader advised the journalists to verify his statement. He also said that there is no question about the decision taken by the Election Commission as an independent, constitutional institution. However, it is not known that such an unprecedented event has ever happened in the past. It is not clear to us why polling was stopped. Polling has been suspended in 51 out of 145 polling stations. The Minister expressed hope that the Election Commission will take appropriate measures as per the rules for the sake of fair and acceptable elections.
