Aftab Amin Poonawala along with Shraddha Walker arrived in Delhi from Mumbai, India on May 8. That is exactly 10 days before Shraddha was killed. Apparently, the matter seems to have come to Delhi for a pre-planned plot and murder, but the investigators are still unable to reconcile some accounts.
Investigators learned that Aftab had come with a new call
center job in Delhi.
Shraddha too came to a new city and started looking for a job. The question arises, if premeditated murder was the aim, then what was the need to get a new job in Delhi and do that job? Aftab could have killed any excuse and escaped from Delhi! Why did he remain at the crime scene for five months?
Apart from this, the police is confused about another information that has emerged in the investigation. The police have learned that a few days before coming to Delhi, Shraddha's parents had a fight with Aftab. Aftab's family did not approve of the two. Shraddha-Aftab thought of leaving their home in Mumbai and going to Delhi because of their parents' objection. Just waiting for someone to get a job in Delhi. Aftab moved to Delhi to get that job.
If the purpose of coming to Delhi is to avoid obstacles and
start a new life, why did Aftab kill Shraddha? - This question arose in
the mind of the investigators.
After arriving in Delhi on May 8, Aftab and Shraddha spent
the first night in a hotel in Paharganj. Change hotel again next
day. The third night is spent in Delhi at the house of an acquaintance of
Aftab. A few days later, Shraddha bought a new flat in Delhi. That is
around May 13. Within a few days, Aftab killed his live-in partner on May
18. He even told the police that on the day he killed Shraddha, he had
wanted to kill Shraddha a few days before.
The question of the investigators is, if the intention was
to kill, then why did Aftab go to rent a flat. And why did he go there for
months! Aftab suddenly thought of murdering Shraddha, according to a
section of the investigators. Out of anger he sometimes tortured
Shraddha. He took the decision to kill from that boundless anger.
Meanwhile, the police recovered 13 bones from the forest of
Mehrauli in Delhi after searching for three days. But DNA analysis is
necessary to confirm whether those bones belong to Shraddha or not, police
said. A team of forensic experts has already been formed to examine the
bones. The bones are so old that forensic experts face considerable
challenges in finding DNA from them. They claim that it will take at least
two weeks to complete the entire process.
On May 18, live-in partner Shraddha Walker was killed by her
boyfriend Aftab Amin Poonawala in Mehrauli, Delhi. Then, inspired by a
foreign web series, he chopped Shraddha's body into 35 pieces. He also
bought a new refrigerator to store the dead body. After that, for 18 days,
Aftab spread the pieces of Shraddha's body in different places in the forest of
Delhi's Chhatarpur enclave. In order to avoid suspicion, the police came
to know that Aftab used to leave the house around 2 am every night with body
parts in a polybag.
Aftab was arrested by the Delhi Police on Saturday following
a complaint filed by Shraddha's father. The investigation is going
on. A section of Indian legal experts believe that if Aftab's crime is
proven in court, it is likely to be called 'the rarest of the rare'. The
court has already approved Aftab Amin Poonawala, the accused in the case, to
undergo a 'narco-analysis test', which is usually administered to suspects in
major crimes.
Meanwhile, seeing the nature of the case, a section of Delhi lawyers think that the court may finally hand over the investigation of Shraddha's murder to India's Central Investigation Agency (CBI).
