Neymar's sixth 'Samba Gold' trophy

Neymar posted two pictures on his Twitter account last night. One is standing with a trophy. Another photo shows him kissing the trophy. 'Samba Gold 2022' is written on the football shaped golden trophy.

The award belongs to Neymar, it was understood by seeing Neymar's name on the trophy. He wrote in the caption, 'Sixth time.' In other words, he won the trophy for the sixth time including this time. Is this samba gold?

The award is given by the Brazilian media 'Sambafoot'. This is the award for the best Brazilian footballer who played outside of Brazil. The media has introduced the award since 2008. Some call this award the 'Samba d'Or'.

The PSG star was named the best Brazilian footballer in a league outside of Brazil in last year's performance judgement. The winning player is chosen by a vote of journalists, former footballers and online readers of Sambafoot. Neymar has won the award a total of 6 times, including his third consecutive 'Samba Gold' trophy.

A total of 30 footballers were shortlisted for the award, according to Spanish media outlet 'Sport'. Among them, maximum 12 footballers got place from English Premier League. Only 4 footballers got a place from La Liga - Vinicius, Rafinha, Rodrigo and their family. In other words, only Real Madrid and Barcelona players from La Liga have got a place in this list.

The first 'Samba Gold' trophy was won in 2008 by former midfielder and AC Milan legend Kaka. In total, only 8 footballers have won this award. Kaka, Louis Fabiano, Maicon, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Alisson have each won the award once.

Brazilian defender Thiago Silva won 3 times. Neymar won maximum 6 times (2014, 2015, 2017, 2020, 2021 and 2022).
