Passengers were waiting for the bus at Mirpur-12 bus
stand. There are several young men in jerseys with the logos of several
bus companies selling tickets. Many did not understand this. So when
the Noor-e-Makkah bus from the zoo stops, everyone rushes to get on as usual.
But the driver's assistant said, 'Cut the ticket and get on
the bus. Can't ride without a ticket. ' Then everyone looked at the
youth standing with the e-ticketing machine.
There was quite a surprise waiting for the passengers even
while buying the tickets. Fares were collected from the passengers for so
long. For example: If someone comes to Jamuna Future Park from Mirpur-1,
he has to pay Tk 30. Even if you get off from Mirpur-12 to ECB square,
that 30 rupees would be kept! Bus conductors and passengers used to
quarrel about it every day. Often it turned into a fight. Passengers
were counted by stopping the bus en route. Even if you go half way, you
have to pay the full fare. The code name for this illegal activity was
'webill'.
Now with the introduction of e-ticketing, this waybill
system has been abolished. As per the distance, the fare is charged
through e-ticketing machine. The bus is standing at a certain
stop. Passengers and transport workers alike are happy with
this. Abdul Hamid, a regular passenger on the Mirpur-12 to Bashundhara
route, said, 'For so long, Tk 30 was kept by force. Now in e-ticketing
that fare has been reduced by 20 taka. I am paying as much distance as I
am going. Another passenger, Nazmun Nahar, said, "There is no chance
for any party to cheat because of the ticketing system." This system
should not be closed. '
On the other hand, bus workers are also happy with the
introduction of e-ticketing. Alamgir Hossain, who worked as a driver's
assistant, said, 'Every day we had to fight with the passengers about the
fare. Had to swear. We do jobs; I used to pay the rent the way I
was told. Now there is no need to fight because the tickets are coming. Both
passengers and workers demand that this e-ticketing should not be
stopped. They also demanded to make the system more orderly by installing
ticket counters.
