The hearing of framing charges against Khaleda Zia in the corruption case is on November 8



The court has fixed November 8 for the next hearing of the complaint against BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the NAICO corruption case. Dhaka's Ninth Special Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman fixed this date in the court temporarily set up at the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on Thursday.

Begum Khaleda Zia's lawyer Hannan Bhuiyan said, 'Time was requested for the hearing of the complaint today on behalf of Begum Khaleda Zia. After the hearing, the judge gave this order. 

Hannan Bhuiyan also said that lawyers Masud Ahmed Talukder, Zakir Hossain, Zia Uddin Zia, Advocate Shimul Biswas held a hearing on Begum Khaleda Zia's behalf today.

According to the documents of the case, on December 9, 2007, the then Assistant Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed this case against five people including Khaleda Zia at Tejgaon Police Station on charges of financial loss and corruption of the state through an opaque contract with the Canadian company NICO. On May 5, 2018, a charge sheet was filed against 11 people including Khaleda Zia. They were accused of causing a financial loss of about 13 thousand 777 crores to the state.

The other accused in the case are BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Maudud Ahmad, then Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Resources AKM Mosharraf Hossain, then Chief Secretary Kamal Uddin Siddiqui, Acting Secretary of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Khandkar Shahidul Islam, former Senior Assistant Secretary CM Yusuf. Hossain, former General Manager of BAPEX Mir Moinul Haque, former Secretary of BAPEX Shafiur Rahman, businessman Ghiyas Uddin Al Mamun, former Member of Parliament for Bagerhat MAH Salim and Vice President of NAICO South Asia Affairs Kashem Sharif.

Former state minister AKM Mosharraf Hossain was acquitted of the charges due to his death. Khaleda Zia, convicted in two other cases filed by the ACC, has been detained in the old Central Jail located on Nazimuddin Road in Old Dhaka since February 8, 2018. From there, Khaleda Zia was later shifted to BSMMU Hospital for treatment. While undergoing treatment there, he was released by the government's executive order and is staying at Gulshan residence.
