Akheri Chahar Somba is originally a Persian term. The Persian word Akhiri means the end. Chahar means Safar month and Somba means Wednesday. That is, Akheri Chahar Somba is the worship performed by Muslims on the last Wednesday of the month of Safar to commemorate the temporary recovery of Muhammad (PBUH).
According to the Islamic Foundation, Akheri Chahar Somba is Arabic for "journey" and refers to the last Wednesday of the month. Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) recovered temporarily on the last Wednesday of the month of Safar after a long illness. Muslims of many countries of the world, including Bangladesh, celebrate this festival-worship with proper religious solemnity as a happy day through state and individual initiatives.
