3 Jubo League leaders shot dead along with mayor of Bariyarhat town
Rezaul Karim Khokon (46), Mayor of Bariyar Hat Municipality of Mirsarai Upazila and General Secretary of Bariyar Hat Town Awami League, Ashok Sen (47), leader of Bariyar Hat Municipal Jubo League, and No. 5 Ochmanpur Union Jubo League leader were attacked by opponents over a dispute over sand mining in the Muhuri project area of Mirsarai Upazila. Shahid Khan Dukhu (44) was shot.
They are currently undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College (CHMEC) Hospital.
According to local sources, today Friday (October 14) around 11:30 a.m., the attack took place on the banks of the Feni river in the Muhuri project area of the upazila in Mirsarai upazila.
Locals rescued the three bullet victims and took them first to Mustannagar Hospital and later to Chamek Hospital.
Mirsarai Upazila Health Officer Minhaj Uddin said that Rezaul Karim Khokon was shot in the stomach and several parts of the body. He was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Zorarganj Police Station Noor Hossain Mamun said, “I heard that Mayor Rezaul Karim Khokon was shot. We are also trying to conduct a detailed investigation to find out the real cause of the incident.”
However, according to local sources, Mayor Rezaul Karim Khokon was trying to settle the dispute with the people of Feni chairman Ripon regarding sand mining in Muhuri river in Feni and he along with the 3 Jubo League leaders were shot dead. All are currently undergoing treatment at Chamek Hospital.
