Random load shedding day and night, suffering
The concerned persons say that there is load shedding for three to four hours in some areas of the capital. The situation outside the capital is more dire. Load shedding is happening for more than six-seven hours a day in urban and rural areas of the district. As a result, the normal work environment in shops, business establishments and offices and courts is being destroyed. The heat is increasing the suffering of people. Public life is disrupted.
In order to save energy, load shedding was announced for one hour a day across the country from July 19. Then the government said that load shedding will be stopped from September. September has already passed. But the situation did not improve. Electricity distribution companies say that they are forced to go to load shedding many times due to not getting electricity as per demand.
Officials of Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) say that due to gas shortage, gas-based power plants are unable to generate electricity completely. Due to increase in diesel prices, the diesel based plants are also not able to run fully, due to which the power generation deficit is increasing with the demand.
Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO) and Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) are responsible for power supply in the capital. It can be seen on the websites of the two organizations yesterday Saturday that there are two or three times mentioned in the area-wise load shedding schedule. However, customers complain that there is load shedding beyond the schedule.
Managing Director (MD) of DESCO Kawsar Amir Ali told, "We had to increase the schedule of load shedding due to compulsion. Now the power generation is slightly reduced as compared to earlier due to which we are not getting power as per demand. '
The country's largest distribution company Palli Electrification Board (REB) is experiencing the highest load shedding in its distribution areas. A responsible official of REB told on condition of anonymity, 'We are not getting electricity as per demand. Due to which load shedding has to be increased. Now there is a shortage of about 1000 megawatts of electricity in the evening. '
Situation in Chittagong:
Consumers of Chittagong region have been affected by load shedding for ten days. Although there is supposed to be load shedding twice or once every day, in the last few days the electricity is coming and going four or five times. PDB officials said that around 250 MW of load shedding has been happening in Chittagong for some time.
