19-year-old Simmons is the surprise of the Dutch World Cup team

The big surprise in the 26-man squad is 19-year-old Xavi Simmons

The Netherlands announced the final team for the Qatar World Cup with a Twitter post rather than an official press conference or statement. The big surprise in the 26-member team is 19-year-old Xavi Simmons. The youngster, who grew up in Barcelona's academy, was called up to the Netherlands national team for the first time with the World Cup.

Simmons was at PSG for two years after leaving Barcelona's youth club. Joined Dutch club PSV Eindhoven this season. Scored 10 goals in 21 matches played for PSV in all competitions. The young midfielder is considered by many to be the most promising player in Dutch football.

Runners-up in the 2010 World Cup and third in the 2014 World Cup, the Netherlands failed to qualify for the last World Cup. This year's team under Louis von Gaal qualified as the top team in the group.

The World Cup team includes several footballers who have shone in European football for several years. These include Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay, Liverpool's Virgil von Dijk, Manchester City's Nathan Ekera.

Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenbarch and Ajax's Brian Broby are out. Kasper Chilesen, who played as the No. 1 goalkeeper in the 2014 World Cup, also did not get a place this time.

The Netherlands' World Cup campaign begins on November 21, with a match against Senegal. In the other two matches in 'A' group, they will face Ecuador on November 25 and host Qatar on November 29.
