At least 60 killed in catenary bridge collapse in Gujarat

At least 60 people have been killed after a suspension bridge collapsed in India's western state of Gujarat. The number of injured in this incident is several dozen.
This incident took place on Sunday (October 30) evening when the bridge built over Machu River in Morbi town of the state collapsed.
Amit Jhala, senior administrator of a state-run hospital, confirmed this information.
"We can confirm that 60 people lost their lives," he said. Many were rescued from the river.
Many are missing.
At least four hundred people were on the bridge at the time of the incident, according to local TV channel Zee News.
A media footage showed dozens of people dangling from the cables of the collapsed bridge. Emergency teams are conducting operations to rescue them.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Gujarat on a three-day visit. Meanwhile, the incident happened. According to the news, after receiving the news of the accident, Modi directed the Chief Minister of the state to mobilize all the emergency teams in the rescue operation.
The 230m bridge was built in the 19th century during the British rule. The bridge reopened to the public last week after being closed for six months for renovations.
