The price of everything will go up: Finance minister

Finance Minister of Bangladesh

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has commented that if the price of fuel increases, the price of all things will increase. He said, if the price of oil increases, it naturally affects the poor people. But the government is working on the matter. Troubled times will pass.

The finance minister said these things in response to the questions of journalists at the secretariat today. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has already stated why the price of fuel has increased and the Finance Minister also said that he will not say anything beyond that. He said that the Prime Minister will sit in a meeting with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and everyone concerned.

In response to the question whether the increase in the price of fuel will be assessed on people, the finance minister said, 'Of course it will be done.'

The finance minister said that the US dollar is now a global problem. There is no country in the world where the value of the dollar has not increased. Everyone is suffering because of this. Those who are fighting are also suffering. Those who prevent the war are also not out of it.

Meanwhile, the heads of treasury of six domestic and foreign banks were removed from their duties last Thursday due to abnormal profit in dollar business.

In response to a question in this regard, the finance minister said, 'If help is not done as needed here, then there is a problem. How much money you can keep in your bank, how much dollars you keep, how much cash you keep. If you keep it outside, it will seem like you are doing something else. I do not know the matter properly.'

The finance minister said that post-Covid-19, remittances have decreased compared to exports. At the same time imports also increased. This has caused an extreme dollar crisis in the country. However, the foreign exchange market will be kept stable.
