Suicide attack on educational center in Kabul, 19 killed
At least 19 people were killed in a suicide attack at an educational center in the Afghan capital, Kabul. Many others were injured. BBC reported this information about Kabul police.
Today Friday, the explosion occurred in an educational
center named Kaj in Dasht-i Barchi area, west of Kabul city. Officials of the
center said that the students there were doing preparatory studies for the
university exams.
Most of the people living in the Dasht-e Barchi area belong
to the minority Hazara community. They have been targeted in various attacks in
the past as well.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for today's blast.
Shia Hazaras have long been persecuted by the Taliban and their rival militant
group IS.
Taliban Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Nafi Thakur
condemned the attack. He said, security teams are at the spot.
Thakur further said that the targeting of civilians shows
the bomb enemy's inhumane brutality and lack of moral standards.
The Taliban seized power in Afghanistan in August last year.
The armed group has since said it is working to restore stability.
However, the terrorist group IS continues to attack the country.
There have been several attacks in the Dasht-i Barchi area
before. Some of these attacks targeted schools and hospitals.
Before the Taliban took power last year, a bombing at a girls' school in the Dasht-i Barchi area killed 85 people. Most of the dead were students. Hundreds of students were injured in that attack.
