University of Chittagong Chhatra League protested by hanging locks
The protest started at 2:30 am on Sunday. Earlier, the leaders and activists took a procession and gathered at the roundabout from the banana shack area of the campus. The buses of teachers, officials and employees were stopped due to BCL protests. Later, when the lock was opened at 3:30 p.m., the traffic flow was normal.
Earlier, the leaders and activists of the University Chatra League held a press conference on August 10, a public signature program on Thursday and a human chain on Tuesday for the same demand. Besides, they expressed no confidence in the President of the University Branch Chhatra League Rezaul Haque and General Secretary Iqbal Hossain
Six affiliates of the branch Chatra League participated in the protest. They are Varsity Express, Banglar Mukh, Epitaph, Red Signal, Concorde and Ulka. The leaders and workers of these parties are known in the campus as followers of AJM Nasir Uddin, general secretary of the city Awami League and former mayor of Chittagong.
Pradeep Chakraborty, leader of the Varsity Express side and vice-president of the branch Chatra League, told CTG POST NEWS, 'Before this, we demand the extension of the committee through a peaceful program. But the top leaders did not take into account. So the movement is slowly tightening. Stricter action will be taken if the demand is not met.'
Abu Bakar Toha, the leader of Bengal's Mukh sub-party and vice-president of the branch Chatra League, Rakibul Hasan, the leader and vice-president of the Red Signal sub-party, told CTG POST NEWS that, except for those who were regularly associated with the branch Chatra League, the posts of irregular workers have been given. Apart from this, there are also married and working people in the committee, which is against the constitution of Chatra League. Therefore, the current committee should be reorganized and the committee should be expanded with the posts of regular workers of BCL.
In this context, Rezaul Haque, President of the University Branch Chatra League, told CTG POST NEWS, 'It is not possible to give posts to all the two to three thousand workers in the committee. There are organizational constraints. The anger of the leaders and workers who did not get the post will be addressed through the hall committee. We have already started working on this.
Branch BCL general secretary Iqbal Hossain told CTG POST NEWS that the authority to expand the committee is in the hands of the central committee. The central committee leaders have already been informed about this. It is unfortunate for the committee to take action like protests and blockades. Such behavior is not desirable from the leaders and activists of BCL. Apart from this, if someone who is married or employed is in the committee, then the matter should be reported to the office cell of the organization. Angry leaders and workers did not do such a thing.
Central Chatra League president Al Nahian Khan and general secretary writer Bhattacharya's mobile phones were called several times to find out about this, but they did not get any response. They didn't respond even though they sent a text message without getting the phone.
On July 31, at around 12:30 PM, the Central Office of the Chatra League announced the full committee of 376 members of the Chittagong University branch. After the announcement of the committee, the deposed leaders and workers vandalized about 30 rooms of at least 4 halls of the university. On that night, they blocked the main gate of the university and called for a siege. Angry leaders and activists demanded a new committee. This stalemate lasted until August 2. Due to this, 11 final exams of 9 departments were postponed.
Chittagong University Chatra League has been divided into two sides for a long time. One party is a follower of former mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury's son and deputy education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury. Another party is known as a follower of former city mayor and General Secretary of Chittagong City Awami League AJM Nasir Uddin.
Chittagong Uni Hossain Branch Chatra League has 11 sub-parties between these two parties. Among them are Vijay and Choose Friends with Care (CFC) Mahibul Hasan, the remaining nine supporters are AJM Nasir's followers. However, both the leaders have said at different times that they have no side in the politics of Chabi Chatra League.
