Two of the top 10 movies in India are by Satyajit

Two of the top 10 films in India's history as judged by critics are by Satyajit Ray, not only that, but two films by Bengali filmmakers Ritvik Ghatak and Mrinal Sen are also on the top list. The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRSCI) recently selected the top 10 films in the country's history, The Times of India reported. Established in 1930, FIPRSCI awards various films at film festivals like Cannes, Venice or Vienna.

According to them, Satyajit Ray's Pather Panchali is considered the best movie. The legendary director's first movie is considered a milestone movie in the history of Indian cinema. Satyajit produced the movie in 1955 based on Vibhutibhushan Banerjee's novel. Hrithik Ghatak's 'Meghe Dhaka Tara' was selected as the second best. Released in 1960, this movie is based on the novel by Shaktipad Rajguru.

The third place in the list is 'Bhuvan Som' by another Bengali film maharathi Mrinal Sen. Released in 1969, this movie was produced in Hindi by Mrinal Sen. Adur Gopalakrishnan's Malayalam movie 'Ellippathayam', Girish Kasaravalli's Kannada movie 'Ghatsraddha' and MS Sathyu's 'Garam Hawa' are on the fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively.

The seventh place is again taken by Satyajit Roy, with Charulata. The movie was made in 1964 based on the story of poet Rabindranath Tagore. Eighth place is Shyam Benegal's 'Ankur'. This movie starring Shabana Azmi was released in 1974. Guru Dutt's 'Piyasa' and Ramesh Sippy's 'Sholay' are two Bollywood movies at ninth and tenth place.
