Even after Argentina won the World Cup, Brazil is at the top of the FIFA ranking

After 36 years, Argentina won the World Cup. After being unbeaten for 36 consecutive matches, Messi's team won the World Cup after losing against Saudi Arabia. Even on such a happy day, FIFA gave bad news for Messi. FIFA publishes the rankings immediately after the World Cup. Despite winning the World Cup surprisingly, Argentina did not reach the top. Even after the World Cup, Brazil has kept the top spot intact.

In February 2022, Brazil overtook Belgium to top the FIFA rankings. Since then they have held the top position for 10 consecutive months. However, Brazil was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the World Cup after losing against Croatia. Brazil won 3 matches in the World Cup. A loss to Cameroon and a draw against Croatia.

After winning the 2021 Copa America, the 2022 Finalsima Trophy and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Argentina could not become the number one team in the FIFA rankings. Argentina could have come out on top if they had beaten France in the World Cup final within the allotted time but Messi failed to do so.

Both Argentina and France are ranked second and third respectively. On the other hand, Belgium is two steps behind at number 4. England and the Netherlands are fifth and sixth respectively. Croatia made the biggest jump in the top ten. They moved up from 10th place to 7th place.

On the other hand, Italy is in the 8th place despite not participating in the World Cup. The two hot favorites of the World Cup, Portugal, are in 9th and Spain in 10th place. The most interesting team of this year's World Cup was Morocco. They reached their highest ranking in football history. African Lions are at number 11.
