14 dead, 10 missing in Nepal landslide

At least 14 people have died in landslides triggered by
heavy rains in western Nepal. Seven people were injured. Rescuers continued their
search for the missing 10 people. Officials said this on Saturday. Reuters news
Police spokesman Bahadur Karki said rescuers pulled out the victims from the rubble of five houses buried under the ground in Asham district. The district is located 450 km west of the capital Kathmandu.
Local media footage showed rescuers shoveling mud by hand as
part of a desperate effort to free those trapped. The injured were rushed to
nearby hospitals, officials said.
Flash floods and landslides occur frequently in the
mountainous regions of Nepal. Especially during the rainy season from June to
September, such incidents occur more.
Flash floods and landslides have killed 48 people across the
country so far this year, according to government figures. 12 people are missing.
