The visually impaired can listen to the description of the images on Twitter
Twitter launches 'Image Description Reminder' feature for blind or visually impaired users. By enabling this feature, captions of tweets (messages on Twitter) exchanged on the microblogging site will be heard through screen reader software.
Twitter said in a statement that not all photo descriptions can be heard. For this first add image description before tweeting using image description reminder facility. A screen reader software developed for the visually impaired will read the description given by the tweeter.
This method is basically known as 'Alternative Text' or 'Alt Text'. It allows the content of the image to be written, which can be read by screen reader software. As a result, even if you don't see it with your eyes, you get an opportunity to know about the content of the picture.
This new facility can be used by the visually impaired as well as common people to know the detailed information of the picture. Even slow internet users will benefit from it. This facility, suitable for use on mobile phones as well as computers, will be launched gradually for Twitter users in all countries of the world.
