Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, General Secretary Obaidul Quader

The Awami League National Conference was inaugurated at Suhrawardy Udyan around 10:30 am. Later, at around 3 o'clock in the capital, the council session for the election of new leadership began at the Auditorium of Engineers Institution in Ramna.

About seven thousand councilors from all over the country participated in this session. Based on their opinions, the president and general secretary of the party are elected.

To select the new leadership of the Awami League, a three-member election commission was formed with Yusuf Hossain Humayun as the chairman. The other two members of the commission were Moshiur Rahman, adviser to the prime minister and Sahabuddin Chuppu, a member of the advisory council.

Through this conference, according to the constitution, the previous committee of Awami League has been dissolved. According to the previous rules, the names of the party president and general secretary were proposed by the election commission in the second session. Based on that, the councilors selected the leadership for the top two positions. Later, the ultimate power of selecting the leadership in other positions of the party is entrusted to the party chief. He discussed with the senior leaders of the party and took the final decision. Through this conference, there will be a new central committee of 81 members of Awami League.
