10 thousand children drown in water every year in the country
10,000 children die every year due to water drowning in the country. Meanwhile, 'Drowning' is one of the top 5 causes of death for children aged 1 to 14 years.
This information was presented in a training workshop on
'Issue-based news writing to prevent child drowning deaths' at the Satkhira
Civil Surgeon's office on Saturday. The workshop was organized by the
private media organization 'Samsti'.
It is said in the workshop that 235,000 children are
drowning in the world every year. 90 percent of which are in low and
middle income countries. Drowning is currently the third leading cause of
unintentional death and injury to children worldwide
being considered as Bangladesh has one of the world's
highest drowning deaths among children under the age of five. Most of them
died between 9 am and 1 pm.
On the other hand, by taking three preventive measures, it
is possible to reduce the death rate of children drowning in water. These
are keeping children under five years of age in day care centers for a certain
time of the day, teaching swimming to children between 5 to 10 years of age and
mass awareness raising.
