Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is unlikely to attend the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II, British Foreign Office officials said.

According to the BBC, a source in the British Foreign Office told Reuters that the decision of the Saudi Arabian administration has been changed. Earlier, a source close to the Saudi embassy in the UK confirmed to the BBC that the Prince will be in London this weekend. However, it is not clear whether he will attend the funeral on Monday.

The foreign ministry source said that Prince Turki bin Muhammad Al Saud, the Saudi foreign minister and the prince's cousin, is more likely to attend the queen's funeral on behalf of the royal family than Prince Salman.

The UK has invited the Prince to attend the Queen's funeral. It also caused a storm of protest among human rights organizations.

Incidentally, on October 2, 2018, Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi disappeared after going to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to collect necessary documents. Later investigation revealed that he was killed inside the consulate and his body was cut and burnt. The United States and its European allies have been accusing the Saudi crown prince of involvement in Khashoggi's murder.
